Bette Jane Wunschel née Flamme, 97, returned to her heavenly home on September 26, 2018 after several years of failing health. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Bette was born to the late Sherman and Josephine Flamme, a foreman for U.S. Steel, and a homemaker respectively, in Miller, IN on February 4, 1921. She was the oldest of 4 children and helped her mother raise her three brothers. She graduated from high school and went on to study in college, the first woman in her family to do so. She worked as a bookkeeper until marrying Charles when she devoted herself to her family.
Bette was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Charles Frederick Wunschel, on February 24, 1945 in Gary, IN. Bette helped raise her three daughters with faith, and a commitment to see that they went to college teaching them to seek a professional career. She and Charles often took them on long family trips to see the natural beauty of the Northeastern U.S. where she especially loved Maine. From the very beginning, she taught her children to be part of the Presbyterian church.
Bette was a homemaker at heart and she was passionately interested in interior decorating. And yet she was very involved with her church, Second Presbyterian in Indianapolis. She loved to cook and practice needlecraft and was always involved in the annual Christmas Fair fundraiser. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.
Bette is survived by her brother Robert; her daughters Sharon Sutton, Charlene Campbell, and Deborah Haeffele; her grandchildren Jacqueline Eggers, Edward Scrivner, Shawn Scrivner, Scott Sutton, Joseph Campbell esq., Nicholas Campbell, staff sergeant, Dr. Christiane Haeffele, and Dr. Cathryn Haeffele; her great grandchildren Victoria Eggers, Chantel Kerrivan and Aston Campbell; her great-great grandchild, Owen Kerrivan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents, and her brothers, Daniel and Richard.
The service for Bette will be held in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN at 11:00AM on October 3, 2018. There will be a time to share remembrances before the service at 10:15AM. The interment will be the following day, October 4, 2018 at 11:00AM at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W. 73rd Ave, Merrillville, IN. There will be a reception to follow at the Second Presbyterian parish hall following the service on October 3. Reverend John Koppitch will officiate the service. The family gratefully asks that donations be made to Second Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.

Bette and I became friends years ago while she, my wife and I lived at Sandy Point on the north side of Indianapolis. We always looked forward to our visits and prayers we shared with each other and she include my family to her pray list as I did her. God Bless to a very good friend. Joe Klein
